Lyskamm occidentale 4417 m
Lyskamm Occidentale is on the frontier between Italy (Aosta Valley) and Switzerland (Canton Valais). The overnight is in Quintino Sella hut, where you can admire the South face of the mountain. The first part of the itinerary, till the Felik pass, is the same as the ascent to Castor. From the Felik pass the route goes towards the Lyskamm western ridge, which is quite airy to traverse and crosses the snow and rocks slope which can reach 45 degrees.
Day 1: meeting with the guide in front of the ticket office of the lift in Staffal at 2.30 pm, check of the equipment and ski lift to Bettaforca pass (2700 m). Departure to Quintino Sella hut (3585 m) that will be reached in around 3 hours and a half walking. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: departure at dawn and arrival after around 5 hours on Lyskamm occidentale (4417 m). Brief stop, return to Quintino Sella hut and then descent to Bettaforca pass. Arrival at Staffal at4.30 pm approximately.
Difficulty: AD ľ moderate alpinist difficulties, ice and snow slope steep (45░), airy ridge. A good physical condition and previous alpinist experience are required.
